Digital Collections Project Manager

Project managed and lead a cross-functional team to launch the St. Louis Public Library’s Digital Collections – a project of 10+ years in progress and over 200K images.

Core Responsibilities

project management, training, procedure authoring, workflow management, team leading, metadata standardization, asset management, vendor negotiation

Opportunities

The Library’s digital image collections project had been under development for 10 years, with two failed attempts at launch. Substantial, compounded issues needed to be resolved – vendor selection, copyright, metadata standardization, data migration, missing records, asset management, training – before the project could be publicly released. I was tasked with addressing these issues and leading the team who would bring this project to launch.

Solutions

-researched and selected an appropriate vendor to host collections

-provided and authored training to contributing staff

-oversaw team and their workflow to ensure compliance of all new data

-identified and managed projects to retroactively repair old data

-designed the front end web experience, alongside the library’s web developer

-partnered with state and national organizations to increase visibility of collections once launched

Successes

The Library released the collections in 2017, providing access to 200K+ unique images, never before available to the public. Through the library’s relationship with the Digital Public Library of America, the hub on which imagery is archived across the world, the St. Louis Public Library Digital Collections are now available globally.
